    WINDROSE BREEDING PHILOSOPHY

I take the responsibility of protecting this breed very seriously.
It is a matter of integrity to breed healthy, happy dogs that reflect the type and quality of this breed.  It is a matter of personal integrity to adhere and put into practice the Code of Ethics put into place by the Flat-Coated Retriever Society of America.
It is a gift to be an ambassador and fortunate keeper of Flat-Coats.

I am committed to:
Remaining a member in good standing with the American Kennel Club
and complying with the rules and regulations required to maintain that good standing.

Remaining a member in good standing with the Flat-Coated Retriever Society of America
and abiding by and adhering to the rules and regulations and Code of Ethics of this national breed organization.

I am committed to keeping only as many dogs for which I can provide a high standard of quality, overall care.

I am committed to providing appropriate training to ensure my dogs are well-mannered and a fine representation of the breed when in public as well as when in my home.

I am committed to providing training time, efforts and finances to ensure that the Flat-Coats in my care have the opportunity to perform at the jobs that they love to do.  This includes opportunities in the show-ring, conformation, obedience, hunting, agility, and Search and Rescue activities.

I entirely believe in breeding for the dual-purpose or multi-purpose practical sporting animal in order to promote and preserve all of the qualities of this fine breed.

As a breeder, I take into consideration many aspects of the potential stud dog or bitch used in a breeding.  Longevity, health, type, temperament, character, drive, soundness, and pedigree are among some of the important aspects that I insist upon passing evaluations of high standards.  I also take into consideration the living conditions of the animal and the integrity, honesty, and character of the people owning that animal.  I do not make my breeding decisions hastily or without many months of consideration and evaluation.

The litters produced here at WINDROSE are few and far between.  They are planned only after great thought, investigation, and evaluation of the reasons for producing that specific letter, meticulously choosing the sire and/or dam, and only after puppies are spoken for before the breeding takes place.

Interviews, references, home visits, and completion of a "Potential Puppy Owner" questionnaire are some of the tools I use to ensure that a Flat-Coated Retriever puppy born under my watch will have the finest, happiest, and healthiest of homes possible.
